World Cup 2014 - Newsletter 1

Dear hockey friends,

General information

It is with great pleasure that we can inform you that the registration process of the 7th Grand Masters Hockey World Cup 2014 has been a great success so far. At this moment no less than 54 teams have been registered for the National and Touring Team competitions combined. Grand Masters Hockey is going from strength to strength.

We will compete in the 60+, 65+, 70+ and 75+ age groups.

Our WGMA tournament in The Hague will be the largest one ever with more than 1200 players, coaches, managers, judges and umpires, not counting all the partners yet, who will no doubt be traveling with the teams to the beautiful town of The Hague.

Hockey Club Klein Zwitserland (HCKZ)

We will play at HCKZ which is situated between The Hague and the seaside resort of Scheveningen. The club was founded in 1908 and is one of the oldest hockey clubs in The Netherlands. It has a rich history of top hockey combined with the typical Dutch family hockey atmosphere.

The club has one of the most picturesque grounds of the country with three sand dressed pitches and two brand new FIH World Cup quality water based pitches.

It is now time to arrange bank transfer of €700,00 (seven hundred euros) per team to:

Nederlandse Hockey Club "De Zestigplussers"
Account number: IBAN: NL97ABNA0520491017

Please state very clearly which country and which team(s) the payment is for.

Payment must be received before: 19th January 2014

The Dutch BBQ event (Beach Party)

The BBQ-buffet on the beach of Scheveningen will be held at the famous "Blue Lagoon" with a great dance and entertainment programme. This will be a very relaxed and informal evening in the spirit of traditional Dutch hospitality, without formal dress at long tables and without too many endless speeches.

The price of the buffet including wines, beer and soft drinks is €. 50,00.

We need confirmation of your best guesstimate of total participants per team for this event (including partners) by 1st February. Payment for the number of participants you have indicated will need to be received by 9th March. Be sure not to miss this Dutch tournament party.

Photographs and registration

Team photos and lists of players (with birthdates, please) will have to be sent before 30th March 2014.

We kindly ask all teams to adhere to this date very strictly if you want your team photograph and list of players to be included in the tournament program.

In addition to the team photographs we urgently ask all team managers to start collecting individual digital passport photographs of all team members. These we intend to use for issuing multi-purpose cards to all participants for security, meals, admission to events etc. More information on this will follow in a next newsletter.

Logistics (hotel, transportation and parking)

We have not had any response yet concerning hotel bookings from: Belgium, France, Italy, Ireland, Japan and New Zealand. Please be aware that the final deadline for confirmation of the optional reservations that we hold, is 31st of December. After that date, all rooms will have to be released and it will be increasingly difficult to find suitable rooms at acceptable rates in or around The Hague.

If you have decided to book other hotels already, other than the ones offered by our organization, please let us know as well.

We will plan a daily bus-shuttle between all hotels and HCKZ. To offer you the best possible rates, we urgently need confirmation of your intended participation in this shuttle service. If you prefer private rental of coaches or minibuses please let us know so we can assist you in finding the best rates.

Finally, airport/hotel transfers can also be arranged. To obtain your best quotation we need the following data from you: date and time of arrival/ departure, airline, flight-numbers and number of passengers.

Please let us know if you plan to come by car to ensure there is enough parking space in the vicinity of the playing grounds.
For all the logistics issues mentioned above, please contact Henk Rouwendal by email at:

Please let us know if you will be bringing your own team physio including equipment or if you want to make use of our services (for your own account) provided at the club. Suitable rooms will be available for both options.

Teams travelling by air who require physio tables for use in their hotels, please inform us a.s.a.p. so we can try to obtain a sharp quote for rental of these tables for you. Email your request to Henk Rouwendal at :

In total, 54 teams have now been registered, with a good spread in most groups, guaranteeing an interesting competition for all participants. Several teams are still expected to register, which may bring the total close to 60 teams by closure of registration on 1st December.

We expect to be able to send the draft match schedule at the beginning of January 2014.
