Southgate is getting ready
Southgate is getting ready to host the 5th Grand Masters Hockey European Cup as part of England’s EuroHockey Championships. While eight men’s teams and eight women’s teams compete in the main EuroHockey Championships at the Lee Valley Centre, 40 Grand Masters teams will play at Southgate teams will play at Southgate, while 30 men’s Masters teams will be in action at St Albans and there will be another 23 women’s Masters and Grand Masters teams at Chigwell. Steve Floyd, recently appointed by England Hockey as Masters Event Manager, will oversee all three venues and has told WGMA that he is confident that ‘between us we can make this a memorable tournament for all’.
Southgate HC have kindly offered to host a welcome reception with drinks and canapés after the Opening Ceremony on Friday 21st August to which all participating players and officials – and their partners/supporters – are welcome. On Wednesday 26th August the day’s play will end with two exhibition games by the four women’s 60+ teams and this will be followed by the main tournament party which will be held at the ground. There will be a buffet supper with live music and this promises to be the social highlight of the week.
