New dates announced for Masters World Cup 2020 Tokyo
The Japanese organising committee has at last managed to conclude arrangements for the postponed Masters World Cup 2020 Tokyo and this announcement was made by WMH on 30th June 2020:
"World Masters Hockey (WMH) is thrilled to announce that our partners in Tokyo, Japan have received formal approval from Tokyo Metropolitan Government to use the three (3) hockey pitches at Oi Olympic Hockey Stadium for the WMH World Cup Tokyo from 7th to 17th November 2021. November 6th will be set aside for practice sessions.
"To date, 48 teams have paid the requested registration fees and WMH looks forward to rounding out our year of World Cup tournaments with this event for men in the O60 and older age categories.
"Additional details will follow in due course."
It cannot have been easy to re-open negotiations with both the Tokyo Metropolitan Government and the Tokyo Olympic Committee and to persuade them to offer the same arrangements in 2021 but this has finally been achieved and travel plans can now be put in place. We hope that by November 2021 the world will be back to normal and that a vaccine may perhaps have been developed which will make people feel easier about travelling. A special Japanese welcome awaits, even if it is a year later than originally planned.
