England and Netherlands are European Grand Masters men’s champions at Southgate

Exciting penalty shoot-outs decided two of the three European titles at Southgate on Friday 28th August.

After England Over 70 had scored an equaliser from the penalty spot in the final quarter, Netherlands Over 70 took the European title for the first time with a 2-1 victory in the shoot-out. Scotland took third place beating Germany 2-1 in the 3rd/4th play-off match.

England won gold at Over 65, dominating their age group, with Germany finishing ahead on Netherlands in a league format to take silver.

In the Over 60 final that brought the tournament to a fitting climax hosts England battled to a 1-1 draw with a strong Netherlands side and then won the shoot-out 2-1 in front of a delighted home crowd. Earlier Spain had won their first Grand Masters medals beating Scotland 3-0 in the 3rd/4th play-off to finish in bronze position.

In the Tournament Trophy competition there were wins for LX White, who beat their club rivals LX Red in the Over 60 final after another shoot-out, for LX Red in the Over 65 division and for Southern Cross from Australia who took the Over 70 gold.
