Started playing hockey at university in Cape Town and served as the match secretary for a year on the committee member of the hockey club there.
Playing masters hockey since 1975/6 when member of an ex UCT (University of Cape Town) team called Saxons that was invited to join the Johannesburg masters league. Our team members were mostly in their mid to late 20s and many were still playing serious league hockey at the time.
He and a team mate have run that side since then and it is now called Saints. It is an active member of the summer and winter leagues. Has been a member of various local masters league committees over many years and still is on one local committee. Was a member of the founding committee of the SA grand masters body that drafted its constitution when it broke away from the SA masters body in 2011.
Elected as secretary & treasurer on the first SA Grand Masters Hockey Association (SAGMHA) committee at its first AGM in 2011 and is still doing those functions.
Other life – business
Has background in sociology and finance, and is a Chartered Accountant.
Has been self-employed as a consultant for the past 9 years in developing bond markets and as an occasional part-time finance director/ hired finance hand.
Prior to that he was the CEO for eight years of a licenced financial exchange (Bond Exchange of South Africa).
Prior to that spent ten years at Eskom, the SA electricity utility, in various roles in internal audit and senior managerial positions in its corporate treasury.
Prior to that served his articles with Peat Marwick Mitchell, the predecessor of KPMG
Prior to that worked in freight forwarding as a management Trainee at various ports and airports in Southern Africa.
